Corps Members at Bryant Elementary School engage
K-5 students in service learning and social responsibility through
a variety of programs, including Conflict Management, Student
Council, peer tutoring, school garden, composting, and other
projects. They also assist students with after school academic
tutoring and arts enrichment, with attention giving to developing
the reading and writing skills of English language learners.
Bryant Elementary School, located in the heart of the Mission
District, provides English Language Development and Spanish
Bilingual classes to its K-5 students in order to meet their
linguistic needs. Every classroom engages its students in hands-on
activities and enriches its curriculum with technology through
networked computers and the Computer Lab. Through its small size
and the core beliefs held by the faculty and staff, Bryant
Elementary school maintains a strong sense of community. Bryant
Elementary School believes in the following values:
- All students can learn and do so in differing ways at varying
rates
- Schools should consistently provide a safe and positive
environment for students, families, and staff.
- Learning should be multi-cultural and multi-dimensional
- It is important for children from diverse backgrounds to learn
to respect and cooperate with one another; the school environment
should foster a positive sense of community
- Schools should provide students with basic skills they will need
to become self-motivated lifelong learners
- Schools school help students learn how to take charge of their
own lives and to make choices
- Schools should empower students by developing their awareness of
their unique strengths and capabilities, as well as their identity
and sense of belonging within their communities
